A Cry For Help

Son of university professor on wounding charge

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

NETO Meeks, son of Amina Blackwood-Meeks and university professor Brian Meeks, is now facing several charges after a dispute between himself and his spouse's sister allegedly turned ugly.

The woman who Meeks allegedly attacked was also charged with unlawful wounding by the police after Meeks was bitten during the reported dispute.

The case will be brought to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on October 9.

The Grants Pen police yesterday confirmed that Meeks, a poet, was slapped with charges of unlawful wounding, malicious destruction of property and possession of marijuana on Saturday after a report was made by the 23-year-old woman who Meeks had allegedly attacked and wounded last Friday night.

"They were fighting and he beat her," a cop at the Grants Pen Police Station told the Observer yesterday.

Allegations against Meeks are that he was at a premises on Shortwood Road when the woman entered. The police said they got reports that Meeks allegedly attacked the woman and held her in a 'choke hold' while pressing his knee into her lower back. He is also accused of inflicting several bite wounds and cuts to the woman, in addition to kicking in a door to a bedroom where the woman had locked herself in.

Meeks also allegedly stabbed his accuser in the face, the police said. He was allegedly found with ganja in his possession when he was picked up.

He should be charge for attempted murder, not "wounding". That's how justice is in Jamaica prominent ppl neva usually get the full brunt of the law. Let see what Jamaican for Justice has to say about this!

Why is he not being charged with attempted murder? His intent was to "kill". He repeatedly said so during the attack and used enough force which could have resulted in ur death. You need a very GOOD lawyer. (Have u contacted people like Antoinette Haughton?)

I can believe this story, it read like a movie. I don’t nor every seen anyone so beating before and the EYE part just give me goose bumps, he sound like a cannibal. what I would like to know his why the neighbors leave him in the home after they first attach and also where was they kids when they second attack take place. I am very sorry about what happen to you on that day and I am sorry they justice system in your country work they way it do. I hope and pray after all of this you will be able to move bass this "attempt murder" on your life. forgive him (don’t every forget) an move on. there are very few people like him and it might be his child hood that make him visually attack a female who is biologically smaller than he is. it take more time hating some, don’t make him win bye hating him keep distance between they two of you, in-fact I suggest you keep away from your sister because if she feel this strongly that he should be apart of his child life then you need to think about your and your safety, get as far away as possible. I will send this story to as many people I can an encourage them to pass it on I will also like to know if there is any way we can help you.

How could they even think of such a charge as illegal wounding? This is a case of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. How is there even a charge against the girl for defending herself?

Have we in the Caribbean sunk so low that we place positions and wealth over the justice system? I am right now ashamed to be a member of the Caribbean Community.
